the title of this blog, un californien à paris, omits a formative place and period in my life. that's why i've chosen a colorado ski area as the best venue to break my year-long blog fast. today, it's a frenchy-boy in colorado!
my dad pastored Dillon Community Church from 1979 to 1985. i graduated from Summit High School in 1986. this means that i lived out my adolescence surrounded by ski areas: keystone, arapahoe basin, breckenridge and copper mountain. today, i skied copper, a part of the mountain that wasn't even open when i was a kid.
in the photo above, if you look just to the left of my big fat head, you'll notice a chute cutting through the trees and into my right ear. i skied that chute (it's called "the taco") three times today. to get there, you have to ride up in a snowcat and hike about a mile (2k) across the ridge at over 12 000 ft (3700 meters) above sea level. the panoramic view in the photo below is from the top of Tucker Mountain.
it was a beautiful day to start blogging again. i'm back!
